Washington Nationals select Jakson Reetz

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of catcher Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Rochester and placed catcher Yan Gomes on the 10-day Injured List with an oblique strain Saturday. Additionally, the Nationals designated left-handed pitcher Kyle Lobstein for assignment.

Reetz, 25, joins the Nationals after hitting .215 with 12 doubles, two homers, eight RBI, 19 walks and 22 runs scored in 38 games between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester. He recorded a .342 on-base percentage and a .354 slugging percentage. Reetz threw out 27% (9-for-33) of would-be base stealers in 38 games behind the plate.

Washington’s third-round pick in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, Reetz entered the 2021 season rated the 25th-best Nationals prospect by Baseball America. He is currently rated by MLBPipeline.com as Washington’s №26 prospect.

Gomes, 33, hit .266 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight homers, 33 RBI, 13 walks and 29 runs scored in 61 games for the Nationals.

Lobstein, 31, went 0–0 with a 20.25 ERA in three games out of Washington’s bullpen.
