AH, MEMORIES
The Washington Nationals return to Houston for the first time since winning Game 7 of the 2019 World Series at Minute Maid Park.
· Including the 2019 Postseason — obviously — the Nationals have won five straight games and 12 of their last 13 games in Houston since the start of the 2012 season.
SUNDAY RECAP
The Nationals embark on this series after topping the Atlanta Braves, 6–2, on Sunday afternoon…Trevor Williams (5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 SO) earned his third win of the season…Washington used a five-run sixth inning that included two-run homers by Jeimer Candelario and Dominic Smith to pull away from Atlanta.
· Carl Edwards Jr. (2.0 IP, H), Kyle Finnegan (1.0 IP, H, SO) and Hunter Harvey (1.0 IP) combined on 4.0 innings of scoreless relief.
· During the Braves series, Washington’s bullpen pitched to a 1.80 ERA (2 ER/10.0 IP) with eight strikeouts and two walks allowed.
HOMECOMING WEEK
Houston area natives Kyle Finnegan and Stone Garrett return home this week and even enjoyed a day off in their hometown yesterday.
· Finnegan graduated from Kingwood High School where he played for head coach Kelly Mead…Finnegan then attended Texas State University, playing for head coach Ty Harrington…This will be his first time playing in Houston.
· A native of Sugar Land, Garrett graduated from George Ranch High School in Richmond…As a youth, he played for the Fort Bend Texas led by the late coach Dennis Carter…Garrett committed to Rice University but chose to sign with the Miami Marlins after being drafted in the eighth round in 2014…This marks Garrett’s second visit to Houston as a big leaguer.
