Nationals reinstate Matt Adams

The Washington Nationals reinstated first baseman Matt Adams from the 10-day Injured List and optioned infielder Adrián Sanchez to Double-A Harrisburg on Wednesday.

Adams, 30, returns to the active roster after missing 15 games with a left shoulder strain. Prior to being placed on the Injured List, he was hitting .250 with a .469 slugging percentage. He recorded five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, two walks and seven runs scored. On April 28 Adams clubbed his third career walk-off home run, lifting the Nationals to a 7–6 win over the San Diego Padres.

As a pinch hitter this season, both of Adams’ hits have been for extra-bases, a double and a home run. Adams has 10 career-pinch-hit home runs and 48 career pinch-hit RBI, the most among active players in Major League Baseball.

Sanchez, 28, has appeared in 14 games for the Nationals. He is 4-for-16 (.250) with one run scored.
