QUICK STOP IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE

Following an off day on Monday, the Nationals kick of their nine-game road trip Tuesday night against the Cleveland Indians…After playing the Indians twice, Washington will travel to San Francisco (four games) and Arizona (three games).

  • The Nationals are 9-3 (.750) in interleague play this season, tied with the Baltimore Orioles (6-2, .750) and the Seattle Mariners (9-3, .750) for the best winning percentage in interleague play this season in MLB.

WHERE THING STAND

The Nationals’ 58-41 (.586) record is tied for the third-best mark in the Major Leagues, behind only the Chicago Cubs (59-39, .602) and Baltimore Orioles (58-40, .592)…The Nationals are tied with the San Francisco Giants (58-41, .586).

  • Washington ranks second in Major League Baseball with a +109 run differential, behind only the Chicago Cubs (+149).

ALL ABOUT GETTING ON BASE

With a walk in the first inning on Sunday, Nationals LF Jayson Werth extended his current on-base streak to 28 games…That is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues, and tied for the second-longest of Werth’s career (29 games, Aug. 21-Sept. 20, 2015)…It is also the ninth-longest on-base streak in MLB this season…During this stretch, Werth has collected 22 hits and 24 walks.

THE BEAT GOES ON, MURPHY GETS A HIT

2B Daniel Murphy has hit safely in 11 straight games, going 17-for-39 (.436) with seven doubles, five home runs, 17 RBI, two walks, one stolen base, and nine runs scored…This is the third hitting streak of at least 11 games this season for Murphy…He put together a 12-game streak, April 4-20 and an 11-game streak, May 21-June 1.

  • Murphy leads the National League in average (.355), slugging percentage (.620), OPS (1.012), hits (127), doubles (30), and multi-hit games (40).
  • In addition to those categories, Murphy leads all NL second basemen in home runs (19), RBI (73) and extra base hits (53).
