Thanks to a six-run first inning and eventual season highs in runs (13) and hits (16), the Nationals won the rubber match yesterday afternoon against the Kansas City Royals, 13-2…2B Daniel Murphy (4-for-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 4 R), RF Bryce Harper (2-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 R) and 1B Clint Robinson (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led Washington’s offensive surge while RHP Stephen Strasburg (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 7 SO) earned his fifth win of the season.

  • The Nationals lead MLB with 39 runs scored in the first inning of games this season.

MURPHY’S LAW?…NOT SO MUCH
Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy has hit safely in six straight games, going 12-for-25 (.480) with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored…He has posted multi-hit efforts in three of the six games and has recorded at least one RBI in a career-high six straight games…On May 4 at KCR, Murphy went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, three RBI and four runs scored…It was his 14th career four-hit game and was the first time he recorded at least four hits and four runs scored in a game in his career

  • Murphy leads Major League Baseball with a .398 batting average and a 1.112 OPS and
    ranks among MLB hitters in on-base percentage (4th, .449) and slugging percentage (4th, .663).
  • On the season, Murphy has hit safely in 23 of his 26 games played, including 13 multi-hit efforts, tied for the most in the Major Leagues with BAL’s Manny Machado.
  • As part of his 3-for-4 effort on Monday night, Murphy notched the 1,000th hit of his career with a double in the sixth inning…According to Stats LLC., Murphy is now the 10th player to collect his 1,000th hit as a National.
