Of note:

  • Ryan Zimmerman’s two-run home run in the 16th inning on Tuesday night, lifting the Nationals over the Brewers, 4-2, was the first extra-innings home run of Zimmerman’s career. The win, which came in the longest game (by innings) in Nationals (2005-present) history, was made possible in large part by a seven-reliever collaboration that lasted 10.0 scoreless innings (10 hits, 5 BB,6 SO).
  • The Nationals’ defense turned three double plays, and individually, Ian Desmond made two dazzling plays in the hole at shortstop while Denard Span made a game-saving catch at the wall in the 14th, and Zimmerman made a diving play in the bottom of the 16th, right after his homer, to keep the Brewers off the bases.
  • Anthony Rendon’s 12th home run of the season, a solo shot in the eighth, tied the score, 2-2, and ultimately sent the game to extra innings.
  • The victory was the Nationals’ season high-tying fourth straight and it snapped a seven-game losing streak in extra innings.
  • In four games since June 21, the Nationals’ bullpen is 1-0 with four holds, four saves and a .077 (4-for-52) batting average against, thanks to 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
