Of note:

  • Entering Tuesday night’s game, the Washington Nationals’ bullpen has retired a team-record 25 consecutive batters (10 by strikeout) dating to the final two outs of the 13th inning on Friday night vs. the Atlanta Braves. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is also the third-longest such streak in the Major Leagues this season. The San Francisco Giants posted 33 straight from June 15-21, and the Braves ran up 28 straight from May 4-7. The Nationals’ previous bullpen mark for consecutive batters retired was 21, May 17-19, 2014.
  • Another one from the Elias Sports Bureau: Tyler Clippard struck out the side in the ninth inning to clinch the Nationals’ 3-0 win over the Brewers, one night after Rafael Soriano earned a save by striking out all three batters he faced in the Nationals’ victory over the Braves. The Nationals are the first team since 1969 (when saves were first officially recorded in the major leagues) to win back-to-back games with two different pitchers earning the save by striking out all three (or more) batters they faced.
