Of note:

With their victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, the Nationals moved into a three-way tie for the top spot in the National League East with the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. The Nationals currently have a piece of first place for the first time since May 7, when they were tied with the Marlins atop the NL East.

Additionally, congratulations are in order for Jordan Zimmermann, who won the NL Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. Zimmermann’s zero-walk, 12-strikeout shutout at Petco Park on Sunday capped a stellar six-day, two-start stretch (2-0, 17.0 scoreless innings, 1 BB, 16 SO). Both of Zimmermann’s starts last week resulted in shutout victories for the Nationals (W7-0 on Tue. vs. PHI, W6-0 on Sun. at SDP). Zimmermann becomes just the second Nationals pitcher to earn an NL Pitcher of the Week citation, joining Stephen Strasburg (2-0, 2.19 ERA, 2 GS) who earned the award for the period ending June 13, 2010, following his initial two big league starts. Before today, the most-recent Nationals player to be named NL Player of the Week was Ryan Zimmerman (.444, 4 home runs, 7 RBI for period ending July 16-22, 2012).
