Nationals Official Statement About Navy Yard Tragedy

All of us here in the Nationals organization were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that occurred this morning only a few blocks from Nationals Park. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

In light of the circumstances, we have decided to postpone tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Additional information will be distributed in the coming hours.

The safety of our fans is our utmost priority. As we have throughout the day, the Nationals security personnel will continue to work closely with all levels of law enforcement to reinforce the already high level of security in place at Nationals Park.

I think it would be a very nice gesture by the Nationals to allow anyone with a Navy Yard ID, or any of the emergency/ police officials/ hospital staff who worked so hard to respond to today’s tragedy into the 1pm Nats Braves game for free and to hold a fitting tribute to those lost . ( for any cynics- I do not work with any of these groups, I just think it would be a very nice thing to do) The Nats have always been fantastic about honoring our brave military personnel and this would be consistent with that effort and perhaps a good way to start the healing process. God bless all the families who lost loved ones today or whose friends or family were hurt.
