Check out your Nats in the Big Apple

The Nationals today have the opportunity to sweep the New York Mets, having already won the series by taking three out of four games. Before watching the game, check out these photo highlights from Tuesday’s game and around the ballpark:

Manager Davey Johnson, who was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 2010, speaks to the media during batting practice.

Ryan Zimmerman and Brian Bixler flash some leather during fielding drills before the game.

Nationals trainer Mike McGowan gets into the spirit of Star Wars Night with a Boba Fett helmet and lightsaber keychain.

The Mets, like the Nationals, have some of Danny Meyer’s restaurants present at the ballpark – Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, Taquiera and Box Frites. Like at Nationals Park, the lines for Citi Field’s Shake Shack go on for quite some time, but the wait is always worth it for a Shack Burger and a Black and White Shake. Fun trivia fact: the New York skyline model that sits atop of the Shake Shack sign was originally on top of the scoreboard at Shea Stadium.

Chien-Ming Wang, who started Tuesday, always draws Taiwanese fans to the ballpark to support his success on the mound.

Nationals outfielder/first baseman Michael Morse had a strong night on Tuesday – here he is lacing a double to center field to drive in one of the Nats’ three runs that night.

As the Mets hosted Star Wars Night, plenty of recognizable characters were on hand to entertain the fans: Stormtroopers, Rebel pilots, Imperial officers, and of course the man himself, Darth Vader, who you see here taking a break from overseeing the Death Star to throw some T-shirts into the crowd.

As a relief pitcher, Craig Stammen doesn’t get many at-bats. But don’t underestimate him; he slapped a single to the outfield and eventually came around to score the go-ahead run. He got the win as the pitcher, too!

During this series with the Mets, the Nationals won their 68th, 69th and 70th games of this season, officially surpassing their 2010 win total. With solid pitching and defense, this team has proven their competitive spirit and determination to win. Be sure to watch today’s game at 1:10 p.m. as the Nationals finish off their short New York road trip and try to sweep the Mets!
