Grand Slam Labor Day Weekend

The start of September marks Fan Appreciation month at Nationals Park, as the team recognizes the support of their loyal fans with numerous exciting events, promotions and giveaways throughout the season’s final month. The excitement begins this weekend, as the Nationals, in partnership with The Washington Post, present Grand Slam Labor Day Weekend. As the Nationals take on the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers, fans will be treated to a host of entertaining events at the ballpark. There will also be a number of special ticket offers making it easy to come out to see the Nationals.

On Friday night the Nationals literally get things started with a bang! Following the divisional battle against the Mets, there will be a post-game fireworks display presented by PNC Bank.

On Saturday the Nationals will host two events brand new to Nationals Park. Prior to the game, fans will have the unique opportunity to interact with their favorite Nationals players, coaches, executives and TV/radio personalities on the warning track.

Then after the game, there will be the first ever post-game concert held at Nationals Park. Fans who attended the game will be treated to a free concert featuring Los Angeles-based rock band Lifehouse. The multi-platinum selling band is best known for their hit singles “Hanging by a Moment,” “You and Me,” and “Whatever it Takes.”

The main attraction for Sunday is the Wounded Warrior Amputee Celebrity Softball Game. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team is made up of veterans and active duty service members from across the United States, each of whom have lost limbs while serving our country. These extraordinary athletes, who have been featured in Sports Illustrated and HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, embody the resilience of our military while illustrating the strength and tenacity to overcome any challenge. They will play a game against a team comprised of DC-area celebrities, including Washington Redskins legend and pro football Hall of Famer Darrell Green, Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak, USA Today Sports Columnist and author Christine Brennan, and Top Chef Mike Isabella.

Sunday also is the seventh annual Kids Run the Show Day, as 20 local children will have the opportunity to experience various gameday positions at Nationals Park. Additionally, all kids ages 4-12 will be invited postgame to run the bases on the field where their heroes play.

Wrapping up the weekend, the Nationals will play a special 1:05 p.m. game on Labor Day Monday against the Dodgers. In honor of the holiday, there will be a Patriotic T-shirt giveaway featuring the stars and stripes Curly “W.”

Staying in town for Labor Day? Be sure to catch all of the fun going on at Nationals Park for what is sure to be a Grand Slam Weekend!
