Nats vs. Padres, Game 2

Tom Gorzelanny was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24, after last night’s walk-off thriller over the Padres due to elbow inflammation. Collin Balester was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take Gorzelanny’s roster spot. Gorzelanny was schedule to pitch tomorrow’s game against the Padres. There will be an announcement following today’s game to announce tomorrow’s new starting pitcher.

Here are the lineups for today’s game:

Brad Hawpe – 1B

Rick Ankiel – CF

Ian Desmond – SS

Jayson Werth – RF

Laynce Nix – LF

Michael Morse – 1B

Danny Espinosa – 2B

Ivan Rodriguez – C

Jerry Hairston – 3B

Jordan Zimmermann – P

 

*This will be Zimmermann’s first career start against the Padres.

 

*Rick Ankiel gets the start in center field today, giving Roger Bernadina the day off. This will be the first time in Ankiel’s career that he’s batted leadoff; though, leading off an inning, he’s hit two doubles.

 

*In 7.2 innings pitched against the Nationals, Tim Stauffer is 1-1, having given up one home run and three walks.

How can we justify Matt Stairs on this team?? He does not play in the field and as a pinch hitter hes batting less than 100.
