Lineups 9/25

john lannan c.JPGThe Yankees are the only team that has secured a playoff spot but there are only two playoff races going on: the AL Central and the NL Wild Card race. They aren’t exactly races either especially with only ten games remaining. The Tigers hold a 3.0 game lead over the Twins and the Rockies have a 3.5 game lead over the Braves–Atlanta has a 12.5 percent chance and Minnesota has an 18.6 percent chance of making the playoffs.

Which brings me to the main point… The Nationals can help kiss the Braves chances goodbye with a series win this weekend. It won’t completely knock the Braves out of the playoff picture but their chances become as impossible as identifying a Rorschach ink blot picture. The Braves have put themselves back in the playoff picture with an impressive past two weeks. They have won eight of the last 10 and 12 of the last 15. That being said, the Nats are 4-2 against the Braves this season at Nationals Park.

Lannan is making his fifth start against the Braves tonight. It is his 32nd start of the season–a career high–and a win tonight would give him a career high of 10 wins for the season.
